In 2025, the »Nationale Automobilmuseum - The Loh Collection« presents a globally unique compilation of Grand Prix racing icons. In this magnificent book, written by successful author Jörg Walz, these race cars are described in great detail and presented with exclusive photographs: from Nuvolari's 1935 Alfa Romeo Tipo B to the Maserati 250 F, in which Fangio won his fifth world championship title in 1957, to the Silver Arrows from Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union. All these legendary cars have never been on public display before in this constellation. The history of Grand Prix racing is also presented, from its beginnings to the current Formula 1 anniversary season.

CREATION OF LEGENDS

The Bugatti T35 from the Loh Collection is the first winning car of the Monaco GP. The captivating patina of the almost 100-year-old racecar also shows traces of the numerous paint jobs that the car has worn in the hands of various drivers over the years. As William Grover hurries through the streets of Monte Carlo, he wears a dark green; the racing color of Great Britain, in keeping with the driver's British ancestry. Although Grover's mother is French and he was born near Paris in 1903, hisfather is British.

FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE

The 1935 German Grand Prix was to be an indisputable testament to the superiority of German engineering. The home race in front of a gathering of political celebrities becomes the most important race on the calendar for the German manufacturers. A good 200,000 spectators watch the action on the Eifel circuit, which had opened eight years earlier. The Hindenburg airship circles above the almost 23-kilometre- long hill-and-valley track and provides additional film footage for the millions of viewers who will see the racing battle on newsreels in cinemas. In keeping with the occasion, Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz are putting on a big show at the Nürburgring.

CHARGED UP POWERHOUSE

The idea of the turbocharger dates back to the early 20th century: in 1905, the Swiss Alfred Büchi applied for a patent on the subject. At the same time, Sanford Moss was experimenting with this technology in America, which made it possible to feed more combustion mixture into the combustion chamber. A turbocharger consists of two turbines connected to each other. One of them is located in the exhaust tract. The faster the exhaust gas flow, the faster the shaft driven by the turbine blades runs, which drives a turbine on the other side of the housing that compresses the intake air of an internal combustion engine and forces it into the intake tract. Compression enables a greater fuel/air volume within the combustion chamber, which in turn generates a significant increase in engine power.
